INTERNATIONAL FIREFIGHTERS’ DAY

Today is International Firefighters’ Day. A day we stop to recognise and honour the sacrifices of our fallen comrades and the contributions of all current and former firefighters.

This year, the tragic loss of our colleague FF 1st Class Izabella ‘Izzy’ Nash will be felt strongly within the Fire Service. Our thoughts are also with our injured colleague Lia Drew, who remains in hospital and we wish her a speedy recovery. The events of the past few days remind us that we risk our lives every time we answer a call, and we must take the time to reflect on the life of our comrade who has made the ultimate sacrifice.

Contrary to any government policy decision due to the Coronation of the King, your union supports flags being kept at half-mast in honour of our fallen sister, until her funeral has occurred. We will defend this position in any forum should it be challenged.
