INJURED FIREFIGHTERS - UPDATE

In the early hours of Monday 2 May 2023, two of your colleagues working together in a BA Team were injured (one of them critically) at a structure fire in the South East Region (Slacks Creek).  QFES is keeping your union updated as things progress.

This is a terrible reminder of the risks involved in the work you are called on to do every day and night.  Despite everything you and your colleagues do to keep yourselves and each other safe, your role puts you in situations where a split second can change everything.

What happened will be fully investigated, but this morning, your union is focussing on ensuring those who might need support have it available to them.

This morning UFUQ representatives are making contact with the injured member’s families to offer any immediate assistance we can provide.  We will also be speaking to the injured firefighter’s colleagues who were at the scene when their colleagues were injured.  I will ensure the injured members received the best support possible and I will update you if there is anything further to report to you.

Take a moment today to think of the two firefighters in hospital and keep your own safety and the safety of your colleagues at the forefront.
