CODE 2, VOL 37, NO 18 : 10 october 2023

FIREFIGHTERS’ REMEMBRANCE DAY

Firefighters Remembrance Day is honoured every year on October 10, with flags at all fire stations flown at half-mast and a minute's silence observed at 10am. For those at station, a siren blast from your appliance for 10 seconds is also fitting at the conclusion of the minute silence.

These services commemorate Queensland firefighters who have lost their lives whilst on duty and those that have lost their lives through illness caused from fighting fires, serving the community of Queensland since 1877.

I encourage all professional firefighters to participate today and remember the lives of all those lost. This year we are reminded of this reality with the death of Izzy Nash, tragically lost at the Slacks Creek Fire. Vale Izzy.

We shall not forget our fallen!
