CODE 2, VOL 37, NO 15 : 28 september 2023

KINGS BIRTHDAY PUBLIC HOLIDAY ENTITLEMENTS

This Monday, 02 September 2023 is the King’s Birthday Public Holiday.

UFUQ members should be aware that the King’s Birthday does not attract the same penalties as other public holidays.

Clause 23.1 (b) of your award provides the following –
- If you are rostered to work on the day, you will be paid at the rate of time and one-half, and
- If you are not rostered to work will not receive the additional 8 hours pay that they would on other holidays.

Whether you are rostered to work or not, the Award provides that In lieu of the usual public holiday entitlements, you receive an additional 8 hours leave in your rotating leave roster.

Further information about how this is calculated and applied can be found in Schedule 5 of CA22.

This difference in public holiday entitlements has been in place since the commencement of the current rotating leave roster many years ago and has remained unchanged ever since.
