CODE 2, VOL 35, NO 42 : 22 DECEMBER 2021

In CA19, your union successfully negotiated an external assessment of the live fire training work to determine if they ought to receive an allowance.

I am pleased to report that the independent assessment did indeed determine those working at live fire were deserving of additional remuneration.  Discussions between QFRS and your union continue to ensure that the allowances recommended for the live fire trainer work are paid as soon as possible.

You and your colleagues who are working, or have worked, at live fire reported how difficult it is to attract Firefighters and Station Officers to work at live fire, and your union (and QFRS) hopes the allowance will encourage some more Firefighters and Station Officers to put their hand up and be part of training recruits to handle live fire situations, and there is no debate that that training is one of the most important roles you can play in bringing your new professional firefighting recruit colleagues into their roles.

Once the matter is concluded I will update you on the new allowances for the various roles at the live fire campus.

While the UFUQ state office remains open year-round for urgent contacts regarding industrial matters, please be advised that administration staff will be on annual leave from the evening of Thursday 23 December 2021 until Monday 10 January 2022.

If you require anything from administration during this time such as a change of address or contact details, including station, rank, bank account details or personal email address, please forward your changes to [email protected] or update on our website here. The UFUQ office administration staff will ensure all administrative matters are dealt with promptly, on their return.

If you urgently need to speak to a union representative during this period, it is best that you contact your local UFUQ branch representative or SCM representative in the first instance. If further assistance is required, they will be in contact with UFUQ Industrial Officers over this period.
