CODE 2, VOL 34, NO 26 : 19 june 2020

QFRS appears to have quietly installed dashcam video (always on) and the ability to secretly record in-cab discussions (always on) in the GPS trackers in new appliances appearing at stations now.

Advice to all members:
The unequivocal state UFUQ advice to all crews who have a new GPS/dashcam/covert audio device in your new appliance is – SWITCH OFF VIDEO AND AUDIO!

You are completely protected by your union in switching these dashcam and covert audio devices off and you will receive the full force of the union’s protection if someone is foolish enough to attempt to take you to task over following our advice.

Your state office awaits any approach from One QFES or QFRS to discuss why they’ve installed this secret recording of all of your driving and conversations. I wrote to the Commissioner today to arrange a meeting with him about this. Until I advise you otherwise – SWITCH OFF VIDEO AND AUDIO!

I’ve also asked what’s happened and going to happen to any video/audio they’ve already secretly recorded.

I will keep you informed if anything changes
