CODE 2, VOL 34, NO 15 : 27 march 2020

FIREFIGHTERS HANDING OUT FORMS AT AIRPORTS – FURTHER UPDATE

I made the point in previous communications on this issue that things are moving quickly on COVID19 related matters and as such I wanted to inform you as soon as possible about the latest development.

I am pleased to report that late this afternoon I received a response from the Commissioner that from Monday 30 March 2020 there is ‘an intent to utilise a combination of SES and public service ready reserve personnel in lieu of FRS going forward from that date.’.

I seek that any of you who are tasked to do this work from 00:00 Tuesday 31 March 2020 to immediately contact your union on ufu@ufuq.com.au so we can manage this in an ongoing way.

The residual matters of the failure by Fire and Rescue to properly consult with your union as they are legally required to do, and the vital workplace health and safety considerations we were kept in the dark about will continue to be pursued by your union.

You are needed for much more important duties than the administrivia of handing out forms.  Leave that to others.

You are required to be ready to respond to emergency situations, the ones you are highly trained for and ready to handle

I will keep you informed on the consultation and work health and safety matters as this is continued to be unravelled.
